Unable to open Seashore image #148

I have the latest version of Seashore, but am unable to open some files that I worked on a year ago. "Unable to open file." Under file type in Finder, it says "Seashore/GIMP image". I tried re-downloading the app from the Apple App Store, but it wouldn't open because the developer could not be verified. Using MacOS 10.15.7.

Could you please help?! Thank you.

Based on the screenshot you posted, I don't think you downloaded Seashore from the App Store - or if you did the OS is finding the wrong version. I suggest deleting all copies of Seashore (search using Spotlight), and all DMGs - then download from the App Store. If you want, you can attach or send me one of your images via PM or email and I'll investigate.

When I look it up on the App Store it says OPEN, which means that I got it there, correct? It works fine, it’s just these particular documents that won’t open. Let me switch from phone to laptop and I’ll show you the odd file image in Finder...

I have no trouble opening regular jpegs, which makes me think it's the file type. What do you think?

Can you send me a PM and attach the file? You are the only person to report this so there’s not much I can do.

Franulator commented 3 years ago

Well, it looks like you're going to have to instruct me first on how to PM you! I can't see how to do it here. Sigh.

I received the files and am looking into it.

The reason Seashore cannot open the files, is because they are JPG files. If you change the extension to .jpg you can open them in most image programs, including Seashore.

Seashore uses the file extension for file type determination - not the contents.

Bless you. That was easy. Thank you so much for your help. And thank you for Seashore.
