Layer editing issues #207

Closed Chazwick4 closed 2 months ago

Hello, I have a few issues to report upon layering PNG files and editing those layers. I have a video to show but the file is too big to upload, if there is an email I can upload to instead.

First I am a long-time Seashore user, but was running a 2014 Macbook and an old version of Seashore for a while. I recently got a 2023 Mac Studio M2 MAX, and downloaded version 3.33 from the app store.

  1. Viewing layers - This is the smallest issue and easiest to work around, but when I insert a layer, as soon as I click view/unview (the eyeball icon) half of it gets cut off, or the background image disappears (that I've realized is beacuse I'm viewing and unviewing to quickly, it thinks I'm double clicking which must cause all layers to unview). As soon as I drag it around, the full layer reappears, so this isn't an important issue.

  2. Effects cause an unwanted gray/dark outline around my edited layer - I often use the eraser tool to cut off edges on my layer, but as soon as I add an effect (like contrast sharpen, exposure, etc) it thickly outlines the layer in a gray or dark shade, causing me to have to erase the outline. It is visible upon previewing the effect, and goes away when clicking "reset", but if I click "apply" it permanently adds the unwanted outline. This is tedious because I spend time carefully erasing the edges, only to have new edges to erase.

  3. Saving the project to a Seashore file (.xcf) - when I save a project, wanting to pick up the progress later, the saved file shows a thick white outline to my layers. When I open the file, the white outline is permanently present.

Thanks for reporting. It is usually easier to post to YouTube then add a link here if you can.

If it’s too large for github I suspect my mail server won’t accept it.

Here's the wetransfer link for download instead, if you need it. https://we.tl/t-2yDx8xDkQg

Issue 1 shown from 0-35 seconds. Issue 2 shown from 35 seconds to 1:55. Issue 3 shown from 1:55 to end. Apologies for the left and right side of the video being cropped. You can't see the layer choices but there are only the two (background and face layer). At 1:55 You can't see me opening the .xcf but I "previewed" it side by side with the previous saved version, then closed and opened it from that file to show the permanent white outline effect.

Thanks in advanced!

Hi @Chazwick4. I finally have some time to dig into this. The video you took it helpful - but it is chopped off on the left so I cannot see the operations you are performing.

I tried replicating myself and have been unable to so far.

Can you also let me know what OS version and machine model you are using?

Thanks.

Update - I have been able to replicate issue 1 the 'missing areas' when you turn the layer on/off when using the transform tool.

Update - @Chazwick4 - no need to provide any more details. I have figured out the issue and am working on a solution.

Thanks so much! Sorry I missed your updates these past few months. I've since tried the new update and all works well!
