Binder Error loading robert-dodier/maxima-jupyter/master (`could not find or read directory: /var/lib/pacman`) #95

Starting an instance with the binder launch button fails as of 2021-04-25 with the following error message.

  Error loading robert-dodier/maxima-jupyter/master

In the logs the problem appears at step 22/22:

  (22/22) Updating mime-type database:
  error: failed to initialize alpm library
  (could not find or read directory: /var/lib/pacman)

Hi Joan, thanks for your message. The error message seems to be specific to Arch Linux. Do I understand correctly that you are trying to run maxima-jupyter on Arch Linux?

Given that it's specific to Arch Linux, I don't think I can fix this. The only thing I can suggest is to try to find some advice for that specific error message (it appears that others have run into the same problem). I know that's not very useful; I'm sorry I can't be more helpful.

Hi Robert, excuse me if I was not clear enough. The error appears when clicking the Binder launcher button in the README as displayed in Github.
