Text from SoW for AV Gallery:

The audio-visual and photographic section of the website (AV Gallery) will host all ICC video, audio and photographic material. It will be a sub-site in the ICC site collection. AV Gallery will be deeply connected and integrated to the ICC website by the use of web parts and relationships between specific content (press releases, transcripts and other content on the ICC website). The structure of the AV Gallery, taxonomy, columns, and connections will be provided by Public Information and Documentation Section (PIDS). AV Gallery will follow the design of the ICC website.

During ICC website Alpha phase, all the audio/video/image content displayed on web parts were either hard coded in the web part itself or was fetched from custom AV lists in Sharepoint backend created to implement specific webpart. But for ICC beta phase, my understanding is that all audio, video and Image content has to be created as part of new AV sub-site. Therefore its very important to finalize the detailed design for the AV sub-site and to finalize that who will implement this solution as different webparts for ICC beta are dependent to fetch content from this new AV sub-site. For now the existing webparts will still fetch the multimedia content from Sharepoint data structures created during alpha phase or as hard code content but its very important to change the code for below webparts to fetch content from AV sub-site as soon as its design is finalized and its implemented for beta phase.

Example: Home - Get involved #66 Images for Stories

Home - Resource Library #65 Images, Videos, Audio and Podcasts

Home - States Parties to the Rome Statute #64 Images for "Budget" and "Elections"

Home - Overview #59 Image or Video for "Featured Story"

Situation - In the field #56 Images for Slideshow

Situation - Cases #55 Images for Defendants

Situation - Overview #53 Video

Will a defendant have his or her own page? #74 Images for Defendants

Case - Ask the Court (form) #38 Video

Case - In the field #37 Image

Case - News and summaries #34 Image or Video for "Featured Story"

Case - Overview #33 Images for Defendants

Article - Biography #52 Image of the person

Defendants #48 Images for Defendants

Stages - tab and list #45 Images for Defendants

Stage - Overview - including big numbers #43 Video for Stage

Armin -- Can you please confirm my understanding that any kind of multimedia content that we will display on ICC public website whether its Images for Defendants, Court Records as Video files, Multimedia content for Press releases, Multi media content for webparts like resource library, In the field, Ask the court..etc...everything will be created and managed as part of new AV subsite? And properly tagged and classified so that we can fetch appropriate multimedia content to display on a specific webpart for ICC website. Thanks.

AV Gallery was supposed to work with the large volumes of multimedia.

  1. I thought that images of defendants were supposed to come from library in the Case section of the website, where all data of about the defendant is entered as a metadata to the image.
  2. Court records can only be handled by the court record content type, as we cannot change the property of the record itself.
  3. Multimedia for the press release will be handled by the AV gallery, as we can then show images as carousel or single image at the top of the PR, and Video and other materials (including Q&A) can be added by the use of the appropriate web part(s).

I agree that we need to have well defined metadata system in place (specifically reference numbers).

What I would propose here is the reference number system I proposed for the Ask the Court section, where we can use either a PR number, or a specific page/topic to tag appropriate material, so an image can be related to a press release, a particular topic on one page, but also to a video file, audio file, podcast, Ask the Court question and so on. Also I would propose site collection column to be created for this purpose (something like ICCtag), so we can include it into multiple content types.

Do you think I'm on a right track with it?

Hi Armin, Thanks for your feedback. Yes I agree with point 1 and 2 above. For point 3, my viewpoint is that any Image, Video or Audio needs at-least following meta-data fields -- "Case", "Situation", "Stage", "Section", "Primary", "Title", "Description", "Headline" and "Language". More we can decide. E.g. a Image related to "In the field" section for "Lubanga" Case ( #37) will have at minimum below metadata values: Case -- "The Prosecutor v. Thomas Lubanga Dyilo" Section -- "In the field" Primary -- "Yes" And appropriate values for "Title", "Description", "Headline" and "Language". Accordingly I can easily filter and fetch this data while displaying the content for "In the field" Web Part on any Case page. Only the data with Primary as "Yes" will be displayed. So for a given Case, we can have multiple historical images for "In the field" which we don't want to display and will have Primary as "No". In case there are multiple images to display e.g. for "In the field" section for a Situation page ( #56) then multiple images can have primary as "Yes" so multiple images will be displayed in a slideshow/ carousel/ image grid etc as per webpart UI design we want. Same way for a Image or Video related to News and Summaries for Case Page (#34), it will have at minimum below metadata values: Case -- "The Prosecutor v. Thomas Lubanga Dyilo" Section -- "Press Release" Primary -- "Yes" And appropriate values for "Title", "Description", "Headline" and "Language". Here Primary Yes means its a featured story for that Case to display and so on. Same way a Video related to Stage Overview (#43), will have at minimum below metadata values: Stage -- "Trial" Section -- "Overview" Primary -- "Yes" And appropriate values for "Title", "Description", "Headline" and "Language". For content related to Home Page like for issues: Home - Get involved #66, Home - Resource Library #65, Home - States Parties to the Rome Statute #64, Home - Overview #59 etc... we don't need to populate any value for Case, Situation or Stage metadata and only Section will be enough. E.g. Section -- "Home - Get involved" Primary -- "Yes" And appropriate values for "Title", "Description", "Headline" and "Language". Section -- "States Parties to the Rome Statute - Budget" Primary -- "Yes" And appropriate values for "Title", "Description", "Headline" and "Language". and so on.

For Images (thumbnails) related to any other video, audio, podcast etc..those thumbnails can be attached just to that specific video, audio or podcast. So in a specific webpart when we filter a Video content to show, we might display the associated thumbnail image as a link --clicking on which will show the Video content in full screen. Or Video content can directly be embedded in that webpart. This will again depend on UI design of a specific webpart.

My understanding is that "AV - Gallery" is created as a separate SoW and is not included in ICC beta phase implementation plan and timeline. Therefore this SoW will go through ICC's standard procurement procedure before anyone can start implementing the same. Do you agree?

Thanks.

Hi Simmi,

I agree with your proposal and these fields will be a part of the metadata structure for the AV files, as they are necessary for the web parts we will have on the various sections of the website. We will also have the dates included for the materials, so a video will be having a period of time attached to it (as we produce a summary of trials), so we can potentially link transcripts and maybe even some court filings to them.

As for the SoW, you are right about it. We will be getting a developer for this web parts, display templates and page templates, as a solution which will cover our needs does not exist.

Thanks.
