I just discover dzen because notify-send was broken and I'm very happy with it. IMO it just lack on 1 features: progress bar with a -b and a number between 0 and 100 to display only a part of the bar in the fg color and the rest in the bg color could be awesome for a lot of cases like displaying volume, display loading, compilation status, battery and much more

Actually I am using dzen to do just that; ^r(WxH), where W is width and H is height, will help you with that. There are many more options you can pipe into it.
