4 years ago I’m not an expert at all so take what I offer as a grain of salt. I received this message when the config file was not correct. The directions for the raspberry pi worked on all the pi 4b, 4 and 3b+ units. I adjusted some of the wiki instructions as well. Your using buster or Ubuntu? You may need to change your modulation. The rate should be 2024000 or 2048000?
I grabbed sox via apt-get, fdkaac was not available that way so I compiled that. Grabbed the updated trunk-recorder files and make ran fine. No changes to the config or anything else. I saved the old compiled "recorder" and it's running just fine.
The only note in make:
