Feature Request: GOG Game Support #399

Open SteamBub opened 1 year ago

SteamBub commented 1 year ago

Morrowind, Oblivion, Fallout 3, Fallout New Vegas, and now Skyrim are available on GOG. I would like to see installer recognize GOG installs of the games, if possible.

ziomek64 commented 1 year ago

I would also like to request that :) I just bought skyrim on gog and would love to mod it

ShiroYasha456 commented 1 year ago

Same, wish the linux version of tool supported GOG Games. I ended up running Mod Organizer 2 (windows version) through wine to mod New Vegas. It was agonizing.

Bloodscars commented 1 year ago

I would also like to request GOG support for Skyrim and other games that have been available on GOG.

It's not just recognizing GOG installations. The current installer relies on Proton and the Steam Runtime. First step before doing anything would be to study and describe how to get everything working outside of Steam.

I was about to do an issue but I'm happy to see this is a request and I want to add onto it.

CaptainMuskrat commented 9 months ago

I want to add to this as well, it is a much needed addition for those of us who prefer to play DRM-free games.

ogkush920 commented 8 months ago

I'd like to add to this also! Hope to see games outside of steam are supported

Yes, this would be great.

Also, why does this rely on Steam at all? I'm curious.

PhoenixBlade24 commented 6 months ago

This is a must-have feature in my opinion. I think more people would do well to invest in DRM-free gaming, especially after Bethesda's recent update which broke compatibility with a lot of mods. Steam forces auto-updates, so it's a lot easier for such a thing to occur. But on GOG, you can download backups of older versions, and in fact the GOG ver is still the pre-update one.

Adding my request here too. I have the game on Steam and GOG though, so that helps in the meantime.

"It's not just recognizing GOG installations. The current installer relies on Proton and the Steam Runtime. First step before doing anything would be to study and describe how to get everything working outside of Steam."

A workaround, at least for now, would be if the script doesn't rely on the specific Steam ID of the games (since that's used when Proton makes the compatdata prefix), but instead can use Protontricks to see where the game is installed. If that's the case, then one could just add the GOG version as a non-Steam game, either manually or using something like Heroic to do it automatically.

Joao8bit commented 3 months ago

Following this request too, is there anyone who got it in gog and managed to install MO2?

Sephsekla commented 3 months ago

Not as straightforward as this script (exceptional work!) for the Steam version, but I have Skyrim SE GOG version and MO2 installed using Bottles.

I've added some notes at https://sephsekla.github.io/skyrim-gog-linux/ for anyone keen to get it working.

PseudoAnonMS commented 2 months ago

I also think it would be great to be able to use this script to install Mod Organizer 2 for games installed directly from the GOG Galaxy launcher installed by moraroy/NonSteamLaunchers-On-Steam-Deck

RandamuMaki commented 1 month ago

Making this installer work for Heroic Games Launcher using GOG versions of games would be lovely. Anything you could do to ween people off the Steam dependencies would be great as Steam might at any point in time decide to make games unplayable. Notably the forced updates on Steam have caused Bethesda games to break mod support et al, which makes it an undesirable platform for games archivists who want to continue playing a specific version of their games with mod support.
