End of Year Cumulative Damage Report Regarding the Holiday Event Content Botch Up #161

Open LiskaQuicksilver opened 8 years ago

A few days ago, I took the time to assess how much content was affected by the "Holiday Event Content Botch" as I have come to call this massive content issue. My results are the following:

The content for both Grunes Tal and Swineland have been rolled back to their 2013 levels of completion rendering the Grunes Tal region's content unable to be run by players. A side-effect of this has also allowed players to explore Swineland before it is ready to be opened up to the public.

The NPCs "Hell" Twelve and Mike Zean along with the instance entrance for 'The Shadow Void' instance are missing. (in effect all parts of Dekker's quest chain found in the overworld areas of Anglorum and Europe have been removed)

The restored instance entrances for both the incomplete instances of 'The Old Underground' in Camelot and 'The Wild Caverns' in Heartwood have been removed.

Several of my updates to the Credit Shop were rolled back. Typos I had fixed have been reverted and the 'Turkatrice Hat' which was supposed to have been added for the Harvest Fest event is missing. Oddly this latter one may or may not still drop from the Turkatrice King bosses. I have defeated a few in Heartwood here and there, yet this item did not drop which tells me it might have been removed from the boss' drop table, yet was not added to the Credit Shop listings as it should have been.

Strangely a few updated things remained intact in spite of the above items' reversions. These include:

The duplicate armor piece that was removed remains gone from the Credit Shop listings and some of the price changes remain intact, though the rest were reverted.

My restoration of Hadrian's Wall remains intact as does a few prop additions I discovered there while inspecting the Wall for missing content. (not sure if this extra content was added by Heath or Ric or even what their intended purpose was)

While I cannot confirm this, it is also entirely possible that a few fixed bugs might have also been reverted inadvertently as well.

My suggestions for repairing the above damages are these:

Locate the terrain prop data for the areas affected ONLY and swap out those as needed.

In regards to the instance entrances within both Camelot and Heartwood, it is likely we will have to manually readd those to each version of the server for both the Harvest Fest Holiday content, the Winter Dawning Holiday content and the non-Event content as these first two lie within the prop changeout areas for both holiday events.

As for the Credit Shop reversions, as the fixed table was probably accidentally misplaced, restoring this should fix the issue. In addition, I would suggest adding both the Turkatrice Hat AND the Winter Dawning set to the Credit Shop during the Winter Dawning event to make up for players being unable to get the Turkatrice Hat item during the Harvest Fest event.

Lastly and most important of all. BEFORE we even roll out anything else, we need to sort out everything above and make sure they are all fixed before allowing anyone on the Main Server for the next event. As we will want to back up the Harvest Fest content for future events FIRST, it is imperative that we fix these issues while the Harvest Fest content is still active. Once that has been repaired to the state it should have been, then these same changes must be made for the Winter Dawning event BEFORE it is rolled out so that when it is backed up for future events later on, these changes are preserved. We must also make ABSOLUTELY sure that all these changes ALSO mirror the non-Event server state. It would serve us very poorly if even one of these were neglected. I would like to believe that this horrible content botch up was done so as to show us what we must try our utmost to avoid in the future.

Edit: Okay, today I have finally been able to confirm the Turkatrice Hat DOES indeed still drop from the Turkatrice King bosses, so, unless players have ignored fighting this boss, some may or may not have the Hat. Either way, we still will want to remove it from the the bosses' drop tables and add that item to the Credit Shop for future Harvest Fest events. If we still decide to make it available for players during this year's belated Winter Dawning event, we can do so.
