Disk monitoring UI 2.0 #700

Open schakrava opened 9 years ago

schakrava commented 9 years ago

The current S.M.A.R.T monitoring interface is ok for small number of disks, but it can be improved. This is a place holder issue prompted by a user request and to gather more suggestions from users. Please comment and add your design and functionality preferences.

Here's the initial user feedback.

The current path to view HDD health information and run tests, etc. is cumbersome when you have a lot of drives, because you need to drill down through each drive before you can see anything or take any action.

A dedicated page for monitoring and managing the health of your drives would be great!

Some ideas

To add to seijirou's forum suggestion quoted by @schakrava I have the following:-

I would like to see each drives state, temperature, and in the case of SSD media the Wear Level Indication. We already have Temperature available in our collect all smart data scoop but I propose light weight temp / wear level methods in smart.py using the newer sct additions to SMART. I have already scetched out methods to acquire this info which accounts for various manufacturer variations; even with samsung devices which I was unfortunate enough to have purchased. Also speaking of Samsung a firmware column would be good (in detail view only though) especially with lots of drives and we already have this in the current smart scoop all. The sct info can also give indication of Drive state, ie Active, Stand-by, Sleep, DST in background, Smart Off-line collection in background, and sct command in background. If we have multi drive parallel testing it might be nice to have real time feedback via this info on those drives states.

A little thing, but might be nice on the "disks" list to have a little status "light"? Green, yellow, red?
