Update "Built on openSUSE Rpm" to use RC* and Leap 15.4 #50 #61

Closed phillxnet closed 1 year ago

Modify this downloads DIY section to use 4.5.8-0 (RC5) and Leap 15.4 plus our newer multiarch repo and a better systemd command. Minor re-wording included.

Fixes #50

@phillxnet , sorry for writing in a merged PR. This is actually touching something about which I just wondered: Do you think we could replace the command line instructions on the website with a link to the same instructions in our docs? It would look nicer on the website page, and be nicely formatted in the docs, and allow us to have a single place to update when we need to update those instructions.

What do you think?

phillxnet commented 1 year ago

@FroggyFlox A single point for these instructions would be good.

But:

... to the same instructions in our docs?

I don't recall these instructions in our docs. Note that what was addressed in this issue is the Suse/SLES rpm install. What am I missing here. It is not a developer install, but basic steps to prepare a non transactional Leap/SLES to be host to a rockstor rpm. My apologies for not picking up on something here likely.

But yes, a single point of reference would be good. I thought this was our canonical one for the SLES rpm install.

Sorry for the confusion; that was a rushed message on my end.

I am referring to the instructions on how to install the Rockstor RPM on an openSUSE Leap base install (section titled " Built on openSUSE Rpm" at https://rockstor.com/dls.html). We indeed do not have such instructions (if I recall correctly) in our docs, but maybe that would be a good reason to have one. We would thus migrate those instructions.

phillxnet commented 1 year ago

@FroggyFlox Yes, it does get confusing with our docs overlayed within the website.

We would thus migrate those instructions.

Possibly. It would make the downloads page smaller, plus this is not a download as such but we do have easy update capability here and potentially machined updatable as the copy-paste instructions are partially informed by the front-matter of that page: See the rpm_version entry for example here: https://github.com/rockstor/rockstor-website/blob/master/content/dls/rpm.md

Swings and roundabouts on this one I think. We have a Howto in docs to use the installer, so leaning towards a parallel Howto for the openSUSE/SLES rpm install method?

Yes, I think that sounds good.

@FroggyFlox Fancy making an issue for that in our doc repo, given you proposed it: essentially :) .

It could be a near duplicate, bar as you say nicer formatting. And then once published we can as you make a link to it in the downloads website page.

FroggyFlox commented 1 year ago

@phillxnet , I'll be able to create that issue later tonight, my time, so not until several hours from now... Feel free to go agaroif that's something you'd like in sooner rather than later; you know I don't mind this kind of things at all.

phillxnet commented 1 year ago

@FroggyFlox No worries. I think we are well workable with the current setup. But your idea is growing on me as I keep looking at the downloads page so we should definitely go with this. It will be all together more consistent plus we do have more formatting options and I don't really like how it looks on the downloads page.

All in good time.
