Issue: Convert photos to video #143

Open RSR1337 opened 2 years ago

RSR1337 commented 2 years ago

When I upload any image to my story for some reason, the images are converted into a video, and when I save the image, it is saved as a 3-second video. Any idea?

RSR1337 commented 2 years ago

Note: When you enable the (Disable snap splitting) feature, It is what causes the image to be converted into a video when uploading

Turn off "Disable Snap Splitting"

RevealedSoulEven commented 2 years ago

And if it fixes, then you should close the case

Magna-Graecia commented 2 years ago

I just tried this to test. I'm not experiencing this issue with "Disable Snap Splitting" enabled.. My photo downloaded as a standard jpg file. It must be an issue that's local to you unless others can chime in and see if it happens for them.

Which way did you upload to story? I went into a chat, opened the gallery drawer, and longpressed on the image to load it into the camera edit window, then posted from there. This is the way that gives no "from camera roll" tag on story. Then I saved the image from my story, and it was downloaded as a jpg file into the SnapMod folder. I tried uploading both with unlimited view duration (my default), and also with 5 seconds duration just to see if that changed anything. Both ways saved as a jpg, so ya it definitely must be something local to you.

Try upload any image to your story then save same image from you story using SnapMod

Make sure Disable Snap Splitting is enabled.

Magna-Graecia commented 2 years ago

That's what I did. I actually had Disable Snap Splitting disabled, and I went into SnapMod and enabled it before testing. Then I killed and restarted both SnapMod and Snapchat twice. I even sent a 1 min long video to my other Snapchat account to make sure Disable Snap Splitting was working, and it was.

I uploaded the image to my story, then downloaded using SnapMod. It was saved to my SnapMod folder as a 101 KB jpg. I tried both posting with unlimited duration (my default setting), and also with 5 seconds duration. Both times had the same result.

The problem is I can't download anything when this feature enabled ,

Can you pls try with this feature disabled?

Magna-Graecia commented 2 years ago

You want me to try with it enabled or disabled? I have it disabled, and it was disabled when I tested.

Just tried it. I enabled Disable Snap Splitting and disabled Use Android Download Manager. Then I uploaded an image to my story by going in a chat, opening the gallery drawer, and longpressing on the image to load it into the camera edit window. I tried once with unlimited view duration, and once with 5 seconds duration. I saved each time using SnapMod and they were saved to my SnapMod folder. Same results and same exact size as before. 101 KB jpg file.

I personally never had issues whether I used or didn't use Android Download Manager. I leave it on because it was on by default, and having it enabled also gives me the download arrow notification in my status bar when saving snaps, etc.

@jammyjay @tarek133 @snaphappy1 @RevealedSoulEven Maybe you guys want to test this out and see if you get the same issue as iRashiD-AE? If no one else does, then we can confirm it's a issue localized to him.

Very strange, I tried it on 3 ROMs, but I can't solve the problem, and even on the stock ROM I have the same problem .

Magna-Graecia commented 2 years ago

@iRashiD-AE Sorry to hear. Not sure what it could be. Why is it a problem anyway? An image uploaded as a video will still look the same, right? It's only when it's downloaded that it's an issue, and I don't think you will be downloading many images from your own story.

Maybe one of the other guys can test it out and share their results. Then at least it will give you an idea of if it's truly localized to only you or not.

Unfortunately, the quality of the image decreases a lot if it is converted into a video, and anyone will not want this, that's why I want to fix it

Magna-Graecia commented 2 years ago

Ah yes, that's definitely a problem then. I'm not sure what it could be. The only last thing I can think of is that it could be AB testing group related, and that's why you're having an issue while no one else is. Similar to what I experienced with some stealth features. Then suddenly they started working. Rodit would know more about if it could possibly be that though. Otherwise I don't know what it could be.

rodit commented 2 years ago

Just to be sure, are you adding any edits to the photo before posting? For now, I'd recommend turning off the 'Disable Snap Splitting' option when posting to your story (I know this is inconvenient, but I cannot think of why this is happening).

jammyjay commented 2 years ago

I tried this with Android download manager enabled/disabled and disable snap splitting enabled. Enabled I downloaded the pic fine, disabled the pic did not download at all, so I found that interesting.

However the pic downloaded as a normal pic, so the issue appears to be localized to your device.

When Android download manager is disabled I can download anything and when it is enabled I can't download anything, it seems that my device is sick

Ya this issue you have is pretty normal, and is even recognized and noted by rodit. Some people will need to use Android Download Manager, and some people will need to disable it. Some people like myself can choose to use either. But the main point is that your images are not being uploaded to story as video files like iRashiD-AE's are. Neither are mine, so I agree, it seems to be localized to his device.

In fact, I started having these problems after update 1.6.0 , and before this update, everything was fine

Magna-Graecia commented 2 years ago

@iRashiD-AE Strange. Well as long as you're able to download using one of the options (Use Android Download Manager enabled/disabled), then this is all that matters. I think this is why rodit gave the option, because he knew some devices will need to use one way, and some devices will need to use the other way. Some devices can use either. Overall this is pretty normal and as expected.

But the problem you're having with images uploading as video files is a whole other matter. That one is very strange. Hopefully you can get it sorted out, or maybe it's due to some AB testing and will miraculously become fixed like what happened with me and some of the stealth features.

A humble soul indeed. I hope Elon Musk sees this and drops you a cool mil 😂

RevealedSoulEven commented 2 years ago

@rodit I would have donated yet, but I'm still 17🥺

@iRashiD-AE I have the same issue. Images get saved as a 3 seconds .mp4 file when I have "Disable Snap Splitting" enabled. When I turn it off, it saves just normal. Annoying, but guess we'll have to live with it for now.

rodit commented 2 years ago

I think this is fixed by enabling the 'Force Source Encoding' option (will be available in the 'Camera' section in 1.8.2). Please try it and get back to me.
