I shouldn't have approved the changes. I'm not sure if "I want a coffee" is correct. I've created a question on this on https://ell.stackexchange.com/questions/341126/i-want-a-cup-of-coffee-vs-i-want-a-coffee . Let's answer that question and then let's decide if the changes can be merged.

UPDATE: I learned that "I want a coffee" sounds natural among native speakers, so no need to make changes.

In the question that I posted in ELL, a user mentioned that "I want a coffee" is an expression that is used when you but it.

I also tried to find some examples from native speakers on the Internet and found those:

My first thought on waking up on day three was, "I want a coffee". Then I realised I had a headache, which lasted all day. Withdrawal was kicking in. (retrieved from mirror.com.uk)

Tim Thomson said on Facebook: "If I want a coffee I'll still go to Cafephilia or Damascena – far nicer than Costa rubbish (and great staff too) – I think most people of Moseley will avoid it, they'll support the local places and boycott this place!" (retrieved from www.birminghammail.co.uk)

'I wanted a coffee. Not a science experiment. I prefer to drink my beverages out of crockery and not beakers. (retrieved from www.dailymail.co.uk)
