In WM6 and under the "HKCU\ControlPanel\Profiles\ActiveProfile" key is missing.

May is readable from:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Notifications\ShellOverrides]
"Mode"=dword:00000000 for Normal
"Mode"=dword:00000001 for Vibrate
"Mode"=dword:00000002 for Silent
