Split monolithical trompeloeil.hpp into several smaller headers

I want to merge this to main before it rots again, but I would appreciate a second pair of eyes on the changes. Am I missing something that will cause future headaches? Is the copyright attribution correct (I took the liberty of removing years)? Is the documentation adequate?
