After playing around with this alot, I have figured out that its being caused by the node_version
option in typeset -g POWERLEVEL9K_RIGHT_PROMPT_ELEMENTS=()
. If I comment out node_version
, it works as expected. If I uncomment it, it breaks the prompt like in my screenshot.
With that said, I cannot get my node version to show at all. I am on windows, and I'm using git-bash, so maybe that's the limitation or something. I don't know. But I'm using nvm, so I figure powerlevel10k should show the node version because of nvm, but it doesn't. I really have no idea on how to get the node version to show, any ideas?
Thanks for the report. This is happening because node
on your system invokes node.exe
. The latter, being a Windows executable, prints CR LF instead of just LF at the end of each line. When I find the time, I'll change Powerlevel10k to make it work in these circumstances.
Thanks man, I really appreciate the response. I know it must be a pain to create something so awesome, and then people like myself complain about things lol. But in reality, I just really enjoy what you created and want it to work in my specific way.
One last question before I close the issue...I think I've actually got the node version to show! I'm not sure if its due to nodeenv
or nodenv
or nvm
, but it is showing system
in the prompt. Do you know how to make it show the version number instead of system
? Totally cool if its not possible, just curious if it is.

I'll close it when I fix Powerlevel10k.

system
is the expected output of nvm
and similar tools. Node version is displayed by node_version
, which I can see in the screenshot you've posted earlier (it's 14.15.4
).
OOOOH, I see. I finally just understood what you said earlier....the prompt gets messed up because of the different line endings in Windows...now it all makes sense :)
I'll close it when I fix Powerlevel10k.
Okay that's fine. But feel free to close it whenever if you change your mind. Knowing the reason why it broke is good enough for me.
Fixed.
@romkatv you're the best! After updating, I re-enabled the node_version
option and it works splendidly 👍😁👍
Thanks for verifying.

Heya @robquinn I know your post was from over a year ago. I can't figure out why my terminal also shows the word 'system' in purple on the right hand side, it started doing this all of a sudden. do you remember what this was about ?
@ebeyra Please open a separate issue.
Hello,
Let me start by saying I LOVE powerlevel10k. I'm a windows user, and normally use Powershell as my terminal. But I switched to using git-bash specifically so I could use ZSH and powerlevel10k. Seriously, its just that awesome.
Anyway, I initially followed the configuration wizard, and everything worked as expected (AWESOME wizard btw). The issue occurred when I uncommented items in the
typeset -g POWERLEVEL9K_RIGHT_PROMPT_ELEMENTS=()
. Initially, after uncommenting these items, everything appeared to be okay. Here is a screenshot:So everything looks alright. But when I navigate to the directory with my latest node project, that's when things get squirrelly. Items on the right-side suddenly show up on the left-side, and the right-side looks cut-off. Here's a screenshot of that:
Can you see how the right-side is showing up and overlapping on the left-side? I'm not sure if this is actually an issue, or if its something wrong with my config. After following the configuration wizard, the only thing I did was uncomment like 3 or 4 elements on the right-side (I think they were
node_version
,load
, andram
.Despite how long it is, I will leave my
~/.p10k.zsh
config below, as I figure you might want to look at it.Please, if you have any ideas on what is wrong, let me know.
