Hangout toolbox and other tools no longer work after last update of Hangout Toolbox

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1.Start HOA on Windows 7 computer
2.Try to install hangout-toolbox
3.It says "Opening Hangout Toolbox Downloading app"
4.It fails with a message: "There was an error while loading your app!
This app did not load because there appears to be something wrong with it."

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
I have been using this tool since couple of months now and recently I was told 
that there is an update available - but there was no other option and when I 
tried opening the toolbox it went ahead and updated itself.

It worked for a few days - but again on 28th Sept I was again told that there 
is an update - again it tried updating itself but then ended up giving the same 
error message as it is giving now.

I have tried the same on Windows 7 - 64bit and also on Kubuntu 64bit - it used 
to work very well with both operating systems previously - but after the 
'update' it is failing irrespective of the OS.

Please provide any additional information below.
After this forced update none of these other tools work either: Google Effects, 
YouTube, Pro Studio - all these used to work properly before this forced update.

I have same problem - cannot share images during Hangout, using icons, usually 
located on left edge of display.

Google tool box does not work, mute and adjusting volume doesn't work.
