Loses connection and stuck at 'Connecting' #290

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago

What steps will reproduce the problem?
Problem is intermittent but frequent, unable to tell exactly how it would
happen.
1. Phone in 3.5G data mode
2. From my Google Chat i can see that gTalkSMS has disconnected (Probably due
to sudden drop in data network)

What is the expected output?
1. gTalkSMS to reconnect within a few minutes.

What do you see instead?
1. gTalkSMS never reconnected.
2. Went to take a look at the phone. Full 3.5G network but gTalkSMS stuck at
'Connecting' (Orange icon). Unable to terminate the app with back button. Has
to force app close.

Additional informations:
Phone model: Galaxy S2 I9100
Firmware: Cyanogen 9.0 (Issue also occurs in stock ROM)

Other diagnostics
1. Sending the phone an SMS with the content 'gTalkSMS' seems to get the
application to reconnect. Only tried this once so i am not so sure on the
reliability of this workaround.

AppLog attached taken during one of the 'hanged' connecting status.

Is this still a issue for you with the latest GTalkSMS version?

Except for crashes when i manually disconnect, the latest version seems to show
much more stability in terms of connectivity compared to 4.2.

We just released 4.3. Please report if this version solves your problem and if
the issue can be closed.

I'm having the same issue, even with 4.3.
When the phone has disconnected (probably because of temporary loss of
coverage), it will stay that way. When I check the phone and the cell coverage
is good, the icon remains orange ("connecting"). It turns blue ("waiting")
every now and then only to turn orange again.

Which account are you using? GTalk with a gmail.com address, jabber or other?
If you are using GTalk or Jabber.org can you try a server like jabber.ccc.de?
Apparently, it solves the issue for me.

I'm using jabber.org currently. I will try jabber.ccc.de.

New ping setting added.
With my ISP I need to set the ping interval to 90s.
Default value is 600s.

This issue started for me somewhere around 4.4.1 - using my own openfire server.
