Weblate R glossary

Hello Last weeks I translated to spanish most of the gettext strings R team put in weblate to translation. For that work i put some entries in the glossary. While I wasn't aware oy your glossary, most of the coincident terms luckily have the same translation. Please feel free to compare and/or suggest any observation. Perhaps the glossaries must be merget at some extent. Thanks!

Thanks for the thoughts @rikivillalba. This seems like an issue for @maelle to think about. I don't know anything about weblate, but the general notion here of replacing our own internal and hard-coded translations with values from a general and reusable repository is definitely worth investigating. What do you thionk @maelle ?

@rikivillalba Can you tell us a bit more about the site you linked to? Where is that hosted? Who maintains it? If we were going to do anything like this, we'd need assurances that any external resources could be guaranteed to be long-term stable.

Weblate is software that manages translations. This site corresponds to the translations of errors messages in base R.

Other communities use solutions like crowdin or transifex (e.g., The Carpentries, Bioconductor, or The Turing Way use crowdin).

Our glossary is based on previous translations made by the Spanish-speaking community, and we have respected those previous works to ensure consistency between projects. We have also discussed these translations with the community to reach agreements in which we all feel represented.

I know that Maria Nanton started to work on a translation guide for the Weblate project, and our guide was one of the sources they used, but I don't know the current status of that work.

I agree with what @mpadge says. It will be interesting to know the answer to those questions.

As far as i know, the R team started to use Weblate a year ago. The project is entrusted to @daroczig https://contributor.r-project.org/translations/

Trying to clarify some of the above questions:

Where is that hosted?

The Weblate server is running in AWS on a single node, with automated daily snapshots. Currently, it's hosted within my main project's (Rx Studio) AWS account, but there were some discussions with R Core at the R Project Sprint to move to infra managed by the R Core Team, but did not seem feasible at that time .. maybe later.

Weblate stores all translations in a public git repo, that is mirrored at https://github.com/daroczig/R-weblate-fork, although sometimes the sync job fails due to some git conflicts.

Who maintains it?
