Both Ben and Shawn mentioned more built on mallet would be good to do. I don't have experience in Java, so I don't think I could help that much here.

i might try soon to build our more functionality in R connecting to mallet, we'll see how it goes..

Perhaps check with @mimno and see what he thinks about Mallet/rmallet being part of the ropensci suite?
