plater blog post #285

Here is a draft blog post giving a description of what led to the creation of plater and how it developed over time.

Thanks for the nice comments and the suggestions. :) I made the changes, except for renaming the file. Should that be today's date or the date of publication? Feel free to change it if it's just easier for you to do.

One thing I'm a little bit confused about is whether I inserted the image correctly. It shows up sometimes when I read the post but other times doesn't. I'm not a super github whiz so I'm probably just doing something wrong, but want to make sure it will appear correctly.

@seaaan Your post is useful even before it's up! I was telling someone about our software onboarding and how you could write a post about your package to increase it's exposure. I used your narrative about plater as an example so can't wait to point him to the post when it's up. Happy Wednesday

I'm aiming to have onboarded software guest posts go up at a regular, predictable time - biweekly on first and third Tuesday of each month - but given international time zones, go ahead and post now. I will schedule tweet from rOpenSci Tuesday around 8 AM and email about blog post goes to our list automatically at 9 AM PST.

@seaaan please hold any tweets till the @ropensci one comes out.

@seaaan Looking for a link to your plater repo in your post and don't see one. Am I dreaming? If no link, we really should add asap. Such a wide audience for this tool. I'm a GitHub novice. If a change to post is needed, @karthik can you please suggest best way for @seaaan to make/request a specific update to the post?
