[ROADMAP] Implement schema/API versioning & release a new version

Following the public comment period on the draft plan for handling ROR schema and API versioning, a final draft was completed and presented at the Dec community advisory meeting. This proposal will be implemented into ROR code and curation processes during 2023.

Schema v2.0

• A proposal for a major revision to the current metadata schema inherited from GRID was released for public comment in Dec 2022 (see public comment doc).
• Feedback on the initial proposal was anonymized and summarized in ROR schema v2.0 public comment summary
• A revised draft proposal was created based on feedback received on the initial proposal and circulated for public comment from 16 Mar-07 Apr 2023. A webinar discussing the feedback and changes was held 16 Mar 2023. Slides and recording.
• A final version of ROR schema 2.0 was compiled in Apr 2023

Implementation

We plan to launch schema v2.0 in the API, data dump and curation process by the end of 2023. The current schema will continue to be supported for at least 1 year after the launch of v2.0.

Schema v2.0 will be implemented in 4 phases, per the ROR API Schema v2.0 Technical Implementation plan:

1. Schema & validation (Q2-3 2023)
2. API (Q2-3 2023)
3. Curation tools (Q3-4 2023)
4. Search UI (Q3-4 2023)
