Describe the problem you would like to solve
OpenAlex has recently introduced a "super system" attribute in its institutional model. We should evaluate whether we should add "system" as an additional type to maintain parity in our institutional model.
Describe the solution you'd like
Explore adding the "system" in our controlled list of types:
Deciding on criteria for identifying system records (possibly aligning with OpenAlex's approach)
Reviewing ROR for records that should be marked as systems to determine the full extent. OpenAlex maintains a list in here.
If there are a sufficient number of records to add or a demonstrated community need, add to our supported types. Per our schema versioning policy, this would not require a new schema version.
Additionally we would need to:
Update curation scripts to support the new type
Update documentation to include description and policies for the new type
Who would benefit from this feature?
Users comparing the institutional model in OpenAlex with the corresponding records in ROR
Users looking to include or exclude data on the basis of a system-level reference
