Description in other information section covers function. My concern here is that this does not appear to be an organization, but a shared project between a number of organizations. While their data outputs are solid, I can find a single instance of affiliation usage (https://doi.org/10.1126/science.abm9267), where this MapBiomas serves as a qualifier for one the parent orgs, Observatorio do Clima (itself also more of a project than an organization). Would lean toward this being out of scope as a project, but would like to hear other's thoughts.
It seems to me that "project" is kind of a misnomer as this does appear to be an established, independent, long-term initiative. I saw them indicated as a facility and funder in one of the linked articles on their website (e.g. https://www.mdpi.com/2072-4292/11/7/808/htm) so I could see this being in scope along the lines of geological surveys we have represented in ROR, as well as initiatives with multiple parents. Anyone else have other thoughts?
I concur that Mapbiomas is an established, independent, long-term initiative. It seems to have a strong enough brand to be recognised on its own as opposed to a subunit of another organisation. Would be nice to have some information on its governance. I recommend inclusion.
Assigned ROR ID https://ror.org/021203s31 in release v1.17.

Other information about this request: MapBiomas is a collaborative network, formed by NGOs, universities, and technology startups, with the purpose to reveal the transformations of the Brazilian territory through science, with precision, agility, and quality, and making knowledge about land cover and land use accessible to pursue conservation and sustainable management of natural resources, as a way to combat climate change (mapbiomas.org). MapBiomas has produced an annual mapping of land cover and land use with 30m resolution and 27 classes since 1985, validates and prepares reports for each deforestation event detected in Brazil since January 2019 and monitors water surface and fire scars monthly since 1985. Freely available for public use, all the data generated by MapBiomas has numerous applications to public policy, business decision-making, and research. The network expanded to other regions and countries in South America and Indonesia, always involving local institutions in their land cover and land use mapping.
