I think this is in scope for ROR and should be added. ROR already includes other state geological surveys (e.g. Arizona, Utah). Note that the NCGS has a parent organization in ROR (the NC DEQ), however it is also an organization/affiliation on its own.

One question - the submission mentions the "NCGS Coastal Plain Office and Core Repository", which looks like an office within the NCGS: https://deq.nc.gov/about/divisions/energy-mineral-land-resources/north-carolina-geological-survey/contact-us#Geological_Survey. I am not sure if we should include this as an alias/alternate name or not, since it is a subdivision? Either way, I think the NCGS should be added; this is a question for the metadata preparation.

Additional information: Wikipedia page: n/a Wikidata ID: n/a ISNI ID: n/a GRID ID: n/a Crossref Funder ID: n/a Ringgold ID: unknown Other names for the organization: NC Geological Survey Acronym/abbreviation: NCGS Related organizations: Parent organization - North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (NC DEQ) - (https://api.ror.org/organizations/https://ror.org/01ftg8r37) City: Raleigh, North Carolina Country: United States

Their publications list is self-published stuff, so not really academic journals, though they are data providers so maybe that would be enough anyway. However, I did find some papers where this is used as an affiliation - for example https://progearthplanetsci.springeropen.com/articles/10.1186/s40645-015-0062-5 - author Kathleen M. Farrell.

Also I could not find it in any of our standard databases (Wikidata, ISNI, etc.) ISNI does have https://isni.org/isni/0000000090078338 - but that appears to refer to their "Bulletin" and not the organization itself. So this would be new with us.

Anyway, I agree we should add this one.

Agree with above, and to Kelly's question about the name I think we should go with "North Carolina Geological Survey" and leave "NCGS Coastal Plain Office and Core Repository" out of the metadata (at least for now).
