ISO-2 codes for countries are already available for individual records in their address fields via the API. See country.country_code at the below:
https://ror.readme.io/docs/all-ror-fields-and-sub-fields
Any additional requests for schema changes can be submitted via the ror-roadmap repository.
Summary of request: Adjusting the information about Countries to incorporate ISO-2/3
Update record: Name of organization: ROR ID: Which part of the record needs to be changed? Description of change:
Merge/split/deprecate records: Organizations affected by this change: ROR ID(s) of organization(s) affected by this change: How should the record(s) be changed?
Add record: Name of organization: Website: Link to publications: Organization type: Wikipedia page: Wikidata ID: ISNI ID: GRID ID: Crossref Funder ID: Aliases: Labels: Acronym/abbreviation: Related organizations: City: Country: Geonames ID: Year established: How will a ROR ID for this organization be used?
Other information about this request: In the current record for each ROR Institution, "Location" articulates the country and Geonames ID, but many publishing organisations would use the ISO codes to regularise discrepancies between the way countries are articulated in data (Great Britain versus United Kingdom, South Korea versus Korea (Rebublic of) versus Republic of Korea as some examples in various systems and services). Might it be something to consider to incorporate these static codes into the the ROR database and be made available in the API as part of the data output? I think this might help various publishers/organisations using the ROR database to wrangle country data together rather than relying on the country name, which might be expressed differently in ROR to their own systems or other data sources. Switzerland for example would have CH (ISO-2) and CHE (ISO-3) for example. Just a thought.
