It's got retries and timeouts etc.

Would be only feasible for doc jobs (since binary jobs need more logic after publishing).

The new buildfarm which is in development (https://github.com/ros-infrastructure/ros_buildfarm) uses publish-over-ssh to push the artifacts to the repo machine. It also triggers an "import" job which then imports the new debian package into the repo(s).
