One small note, if you associate your email address used in your commits with your GitHub account (in preferences), it'll make it easier to reference in GitHub from your commits. For example, @jonbinney associated his email and his name is now clickable on commits (see his merge for an example).
You can set your email for commits in a .gitconfig in the home directory. A minor FYI.
