10 mins powerpoint style presentation and 5 mins questions.

rosemckeon commented 5 years ago

@bradduthie I'm looking at the shiny presentations but on my screen, the fullscreen and widescreen options still leave the presentation quite small in the middle of the browser window. I think it's because it's retina. Have you encountered any problems with getting those type of presentations to fit the screen properly on the day of presenting?

bradduthie commented 5 years ago

@rozeykex Yeah, the presentation does seem to end up quite small, though it's at least consistent so you should know what you're getting wherever you open it. I typically fullscreen when presenting, and present straight from the browser from the shinyapps server.

Investigate this for animations in beamer:

@asys Perfect example of when not to use .gif. Save the images individually and use either multiinclude or animategraphics to animate them in beamer. By storing them as .gif you loose quality which will be noticeable in things like your red line. @bradduthie I'm going to have a practice run through my talk tomorrow - Andrew, Arianna and Lucy have agreed to be willing victims. I've not finalised a location/time yet, but let me know if you're free at all/would like to come.

bradduthie commented 5 years ago

Would like to see the talk @rosemckeon -- but I'm not sure if I'll be around tomorrow (definitely can't be before noon). If not, would there be time to rehearse next week?

rosemckeon commented 5 years ago

@bradduthie I go to the workshop Monday morning! Sorry it's all a bit tight to the deadline. It's been really hard deciding what to say in just 10 minutes.

We'll likely be meeting after noon tomorrow, but if you can't make it maybe I can just send you the presentation and my notes for some feedback?

bradduthie commented 5 years ago

@rosemckeon I'll try to be there! Later in the afternoon would be easier, if possible. Should I try to book a room for you?

rosemckeon commented 5 years ago

@bradduthie That would be fantastic, yes please! Anytime later on is fine.

rosemckeon commented 5 years ago

Let me know if you manage to get a room @bradduthie otherwise, I'll try and get a study room in the library.

bradduthie commented 5 years ago

@rosemckeon Haven't managed to book a room, but you can practice your talk in my office if need be. What time were you thinking? Would after 15:00 sometime work?

rosemckeon commented 5 years ago

@bradduthie After 3 is fine :) I'll see about the library and if not we'll come invade your office!

rosemckeon commented 5 years ago

@bradduthie 15.30, study room 4. Here's the map (if it still applies with all the work that's going on!) https://isnews.stir.ac.uk/files/2013/01/19068_LibraryMap.pdf

bradduthie commented 5 years ago

Thanks @rosemckeon -- I should be there!

rosemckeon commented 5 years ago

@bradduthie changed to study room 7!
