1) Please tell me what the error was.
2) You seem to be using an SVN or other custom build of Blender. Please try
again with the latest official version from
http://www.blender.org/download/get-blender/.
3) Textures are never imported, that is normal.

I suppose this is the same error. Tried to reinstall Blender/SMD tool. Either
it exports automatically as a .DMX, or it lets me define what file I want it
saved as, and then this error pops up, or a runtime error like the previous
issue (even after the 3 files were deleted).

1. here's a pic of it:
http://img196.imageshack.us/img196/3793/7ia.png
2. nope, that's where i got my version. not using svn or any other custom
builds.
3. oh, it doesn't? oops, sorry... the picture of the heavy weapons guy
being edited was very misleading, considering he is fully textured in
there. may i make a suggestion you let people know somehow so you don't
have to sift through error reports about no texture importing?
thanks for the speedy reply. :)

Garmin, your problem is that you are trying to export to C:\, which is a
location you don't have write permission for. Export to somewhere in your user
folder. Several people have now reported "bugs" about this, so I've converted
the exception into a simple error report without the call stack.
1995, it turns out that 2.68RC is calling itself 2.67.1. One mystery solved.
You also make a good point about the image, I'll have to think about that.
On the subject of the error, can you take a look at your scripts folder (as
mentioned in that image)? You should have the Datamodel module at
addons\io_scene_valvesource\datamodel.py only. If you have any other copies of
it try deleting them and let me know.

I was briefly able to reproduce this with my own custom build of Blender, but
now it's gone again.
Try deleting this folder:
%APPDATA%\Blender
Foundation\Blender\2.67\scripts\addons\io_scene_valvesource\__pycache__

it doesn't work. i did as asked, but blender put the folder back within the
same second i deleted it.

Delete it with Blender closed than start the program up.
Original comment by cont...@steamreview.org

that doesn't seem to work either. the folder stays gone, but then comes
back as soon as i try enable the addon again. :/

That is correct behaviour. I assume the error is still happening?

...i have no idea what you just said, concidering you appear to be talking
to several people at the same time. here's what i understood to do:
"delete all the copys of the addon you have in blender folders, and
re-install. if that didn't work, delete datamodel.py."
well, didn't work. thanks for the patience, BTW.

I still have no idea what's causing this, but it is highly unlikely to be
anything that I'm doing. Please use a stable release of Blender for now.

:/ i said i got the blender version i have from the same place as you
recommended. guess i'll go find some other, competing exporter. sorry, but
thanks for you time i guess.

You're using a Release Candidate, which is a pre-release test build. Simply use
Blender 2.67 and everything will be fine.

...ok, i'll go try again. sorry, was being a bit of a jerk there. i'll let

right, so, when i click the link at
http://www.blender.org/download/get-blender/ that says "2.67b installer", i
don't know if thats the right one because google chrome puts a "(1) " after
the download, indicating i already downloaded this before.

I can confirm that installing
"http://download.blender.org/release/Blender2.67/blender-2.67b-windows64.exe"
fix the problem encountered with blender 2.68.

This problem has now been reported in 2.68 final. Looks like some more
attention is needed.
What happens if the Blender user profile at %AppData%\Blender
Foundation\Blender\2.68 is deleted or renamed?
Original comment by cont...@steamreview.org

To be clear, *don't* choose Import Previous Settings after deleting the folder.
I want to find out what happens when the Tools are installed onto a fresh
profile.

Does the problem persist after line 230 of __init__.py is removed? Use the #
character to comment the line out if you prefer.
Original comment by cont...@steamreview.org
on 21 Jul 2013 at 8:30
Yes, the problem persists after removing this line:
bpy.app.handlers.scene_update_post.append(scene_update)
Note I haven't followed the previous steps considering 1995 reported they
haven't been working. I'm downloading 2.67 for now.

Does renaming/moving your 2.68 profile help?

I just reverted to 2.67b and it works great. I could reinstall 2.68 and the
addon if you want me to, but I'm fine with using 2.67b.
