The installation script has syntax errors as well as issues with OS detection 
and handling. Needs to be reworked to be more elegant.

I finally got around to testing this after trying a couple years ago. MacOS X 
10.9.5. yum and apt-get are not really used on OS X but the Homebrew ( 
http://brew.sh/ ) package manager is. The directives for installation are 
simple (e.g., brew install foo), so it should be fairly easy to adapt the 
yum/apt-get calls.
