What outputs do people want from a trainers community? How are we going to use this repo? #2

From a previous discussion, here were some topics that people wanted to work together on.

One difficult one is to standardise training formats. How do we work out which ones are useful and easy to do (low hanging fruit?)

Sustainability/Outreach Making training materials more sustainable eg badges, certification Pedagogy for trainers Network of trainers that facilitates discussion and Q&A between trainers Provide access to a register of potential users/communication channels for promoting training

Courses/Workshops Carpentry courses specifically for domains engaged with DEVLs Joint workshops with other NCRIS/VLs

Commonality/standardisation/Infrastructure Develop some common FAIR training materials we can all use (and adapt for each domain focus) Standardise format for training materials Infrastructure to support training materials and agree formats Incorporate standard ‘data management’ training Coordinated skills branding like EcoEd (Champions program), ClimateEd, HASSEd - with training materials.

Identify needs Surveys to identify training needs Other big picture ideas people want to explore in later sessions

If someone is interested in any of these topics, please create a new issue with the topic as the title so people can highlight they want to know more about it, discuss, provide links and advice.

Hi All,

I have updated the README of the repo to explain how this could work: https://github.com/rowlandm/research_trainers_oz/blob/master/README.md

To kick things off please have a look at what was talked about in the November meeting and if something is of interest, create an issue based off that topic: https://github.com/rowlandm/research_trainers_oz/issues/2

For example, an issue around champions should definitely be created as this is in most DEVL/RDC skills focuses. But it's up to the community to lead this, not myself - so if this is a topic you would like to dive deep into, then create an issue.

If you want to subscribe to all updates read here to work out how to watch this repository: https://help.github.com/articles/watching-and-unwatching-repositories/#watching-a-single-repository

My role is to prompt people from time to time to check in with the repo and add your thoughts and knowledge there.
