I've been working on the Wiki a bit, with some install info here: https://github.com/rozniak/xfce-winxp-tc/wiki/Install-from-compiled-sources
The only part left that needs writing up is RE: applying stuff in XFCE and whatnot, and changing the session to use wintc-taskband
, regsvc
and wintc-desktop
(to replace xfce4-panel
and xfdesktop
)
Hello,
I'm very interested in using this project, but there is no installation guide beyond just building the project, and no instructions for applying it. I've read through some other issues and see that you're taking time to contribute more to the project, but why not involve others to speed up the process? The decision is entirely up to you, but I would really love to see this project receive the attention it deserves. I highly suggest prioritizing the writing of an installation guide.
Looking forward to your reply!

Hey, I've been working on an OOBE Installer for this project and wanted to give you an idea of my current progress.
So far, I have the OOBE UI and the installation script for Debian ready. The Distribution abstraction layer is set up to detect and run scripts based on the user's distro, but I still need to write those scripts for installation on other distros.
I'll keep you posted on the progress. I also plan to polish the UI and add a feature for automatic application and configuration of the theme after installation, so you won't need to handle that manually.
Check out this video for a quick demo of the current state:

I've also talked privately with Rozniak, and once I get it polished enough and fix any issues, there's a possibility it might be fully implemented into the project. I just don't think it'll use PyGObject when it gets fully implemented.😛
Here's a link to the repo :) xfce-winxp-tc-installer
