Example:

--- Lich: tendme active.

[tendme]>health

Your body feels at full strength.
Your spirit feels full of life.
You are slightly fatigued.
You have deep cuts across the right leg.

Bleeding
            Area Rate
-----------------------------------------
       right leg slight

You have a grey clay fragment lodged firmly into your right leg.

[combat-trainer]>sheath my silversteel.kaskara

* Ineptly, a grey clay soldier feints high at you. You evade, ducking casually.
[You're incredibly balanced and in dominating position.]
* In a weak and directionless display of aggression, a grey clay soldier slices a longsword at you. You fend off most of the longsword with a thin-bladed silversteel kaskara with a twilight sapphire-inlaid pommel.
[You're incredibly balanced and in excellent position.]
You sheathe the silversteel kaskara in your hip pouch.

[combat-trainer]>wield my dragonwood.mallet

[tendme]>tend my right leg

You draw out your dragonwood mallet from the hip pouch, gripping it firmly in your right hand and balancing with your left.

[combat-trainer]>feint

You skillfully remove the clay fragment from your leg leaving the wound no worse than it was before.
Roundtime: 5 seconds.
...wait 5 seconds.

* With pathetic timing, a grey clay soldier chops wide at you. You evade, bending aside easily.
[You're incredibly balanced and in excellent position.]

[tendme]>drop my clay fragment

You drop a grey clay fragment.

[tendme]>drop my dragonwood mallet

[combat-trainer]>prepare ic 5

You drop a giant dragonwood mallet with a frost-blue icesteel head.

[tendme]>tend my right leg

With calm movements you prepare your body for the Iron Constitution spell.

[combat-trainer]>charge my sturdy.belt 10

Your task is made more difficult by being in combat.
You work carefully at tending your wound.
Doing your best, you are able to stop the bleeding.

[tendme]>health

* As if effort and skill were a bad thing, a grey clay soldier chops a longsword at you. You turn aside most of the longsword with an Elven silver parry stick with various faces swirling across its surface.
[You're incredibly balanced and in excellent position.]

Your body feels at full strength.

You have deep cuts across the right leg.

Bleeding

-----------------------------------------
       right leg (tended)

--- Lich: tendme has exited.

* Awkwardly, a grey clay soldier sweeps low at you. You beat off most of the longsword with an Elven silver parry stick with various faces swirling across its surface.
[You're adeptly balanced and in good position.]

[combat-trainer]>feint

Wouldn't it be better if you used a melee weapon?

My hunch is this series of calls: tendme recognizes wounds, calls bind_wounds in common healing. bind_wounds makes an attempt to see what's in our hands, tend the wound, then dispose of the lodged thing you just tended. It disposes of that via dispose_trash in common_items. Said final method will drop the item unless you have a worn trashcan or there is a trashcan in the room.
