UI issues linger with respect to the menu modal on mobile devices held in landscape mode, for example. Using something like react-modal might combat this. Explore the topic and, if it provides a satisfactory solution, implement it.

Closing this as it will no longer be pursued. react-router-dom has replaced the need for any modals.
