€-Character is sent as $

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Write an sms containing "€"
2. Send it
3. Will be received as an sms containing "$"

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
The receiver should receive the sms as sent (with the €-character). Receives 
it with the $-character instead. 

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
I'm using the current version running on cm7 for the Motorola milestone and 
type on ultra keyboard. 

Please provide any additional information below.
