Thanks for the report. A recent change to the Touch images may be the culprit; it's probably broken other things as well. I know what I have to do to fix it; I'll try to get to it this weekend.
Looking forward to using the app between devices, opening up where I left off on different device. Great feature! Thank you for your efforts and time.

I think I've fixed this in the most recent commit. If you want to test it, note that the "restricted" branch is the one that's in the app store. (If you don't want to have to keep your epub files in silly hidden directories, you can use the main branch. But the main branch never had this problem.) Or you can wait for the new version to get into the app store.
The app store has been confusing and irritating. But a new version is coming ... sometime.
There's finally a new version in the app store that should fix this problem. (Well, there were other versions there that also fixed this problem but had other issues.) Sorry it took so long.
Closing, since this should be fixed. If not, please comment.
Didn't see any existing bugs on this issue, sorry if duplicating one. Attempting a download after pressing "Download Books" and selecting Project Gutenburg. Searched book is found and attempting to download epub results in error message "Download Error"... Beru was unable to find a place where the ebook could be saved. This shouldn't ever happen; please submit a bug at github.com/rschroll/beru/issues. Platform: Nexus 4 running Ubuntu Touch 13.10; updated 2013-10-12
