One option might be to consider 3-year or 1-year terms, but that may be better for the incoming SC to decide.
My concern is the optics of whether it's a two year commitment or not. 1 year might be more appealing to a broader range of applicants. But then it may not be the stability you're seeking either to carry out longer term initiatives
I do see your point but I am hesitant to find a solution without consulting the current (or the incoming) SC. One possibility might be to add a special option in the nominations form that says "I prefer a 1-year term", but that the default expectation is that everyone will be on-board for 2 years. Would that work?
(To be explicit, everything I am stating here is my personal opinion - we have not discussed this 8-person election + rollover issue at the RSE-AUNZ SC meeting. I only realised that when I was updating the call for nominations)
If it's not possible to resolve this before the 3rd when the call goes out, then I suggest we can just stick with it as is in order to not slow things down.
Personally, I like your "I prefer a 1-year term" solution. That would work for me, and it's a small change. But I guess it comes down to whether the SC can agree this is not a major change prior to the 3rd.
@tom-h There is consensus on the RSE-AUNZ SC to allow 1-year terms as an option for the candidates. I have updated the process and the nomination template accordingly. Please let me know if you have any other comments or suggestions
Thanks @tom-h for approving the PR. On a final check, I noticed that we have specified in the process that voting should remain open for 2 weeks - is it okay if I update the final dates and the time-periods to match this 2 week voting period?
@manodeep yes, that's fine.
@tom-h I have copied over the 2020 documents into the 2021 folder, set some tentative dates, updated details on the number of positions etc. Please feel free to directly edit the files on that branch, and let me know when you are done and I (or someone from the RSE-AUNZ SC) will merge this PR
