vMix supports the "Mix" input type. Unfortunately, it supports just the Mix inputs 1-3 (0 is the primary mixer). As Mix inputs are the only possibility to "flatten" layers for further processing, this instance limitation of those Mix inputs is a nasty one.
Workaround: none
Recommendation: avoid hard-coded limits like this and allow an arbitrary number of Mix inputs. It is up to the user to ensure that enough CPU/GPU power is available for vMix to handle them.
