serialize() function no longer works #86

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1.Open the attached form
2. Type in the text box

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

Whatever is typed in to the text box should be reflected in the serialized() 
instance below the input but it isn't.

latest changes were incorporated.

Make sure to remove the incremental="yes" attribute on the attached test case, 
as issue 85 may still be a problem.
