v5.5.0 - Stroopwafel 🇳🇱

Hello all! 👋

Hold on to your windmills! We've got an exciting, Dutch-dessert themed release for you this week.

Don't you just love copying your mnemonic into your project as part of your deployments? Us neither 🙅‍♀️! This release banishes the risk of getting rekt from a slew of security concerns 😅

This release introduces Truffle Dashboard, allowing you to use your existing MetaMask wallet for all your command line signing needs. Say hello to a secure deployment workflow, with MetaMask hardware wallet support out of the box!

To get started, simply run truffle dashboard.

This starts a dashboard instance at http://localhost:24012 and automatically opens a new tab in your default browser. The dashboard then prompts you to connect your wallet and confirm that you're connected to the right network. You can now deploy (or open a console) to the new built-in "dashboard" network, for example:

truffle migrate --network dashboard
truffle console --network dashboard

Here's a screenshot of the feature in action:

ℹ️ Prefer Hardhat for your contract development workflows? Truffle Dashboard supports that too! See our docs on using Truffle Dashboard with non-Truffle tooling.

Huge thanks to @rkalis for the months of hard work implementing this feature. We're all really excited about where this is going 💐

That's all for now (see the changelog below for the complete list of changes), but we'll be back next week with more details about this feature and our regularly scheduled programming!

How to upgrade

We recommend upgrading to the latest version of Truffle by running:

npm uninstall -g truffle
npm install -g truffle
