Traffic measurement terminology

Clarify and decide on terminology eg: occupance, density, count, volume..

In my experience this is what we have from trafic counting sensors (equipments) :

4 periodicity available :

• by minute
• by 6 minutes
• hourly
• daily

2 categories :

• light vehicule
• heavy vehicule (bus, truck, etc..)

2 zones :

• By lane
• Aggregated by direction

5 mesures :

• Vehicule flow rate (average of amount of vehicule by minutes for periodicity)
• Vehicule speed (average of vehicule speed by periodicity)
• Occupancy (average occupancy in percentage for the periodicity)
• Vehicule flow rate for light vehicules only (average amount of light vehicule by minutes for periodicity)
• Percentage of heavy vehicules (average of heavy vehicule / amount of total vehicules for periodicity)

Our software handling theses datas can compute new data from these raw datas or even calculate alarms (congestion, trafic slow, etc..)
