Condensed styles #71

I love the font and it's awesome to have a variable font version (https://v-fonts.com/fonts/inter-ui). Even though the font is not designed for larger texts, it would be great to have a condensed version that takes up less horizontal space in headings. The density could even be a variable if that's possible.

I totally support this request. I am looking for a condensed font for legibility on phones. Keep up the good work.

Would also be cool to see a expanded version if possible.

slavaGanzin commented 4 years ago

Would be awesome.

While it's not done, does anybody know any tool that can condense any font? I know it would be barbaric, but for my demo app it would be kinda ok.

Thanks for the awesome font

Hi, I'd like to ask, whether there is any update on condensed styles? I would be really awesome to have an ability to use font-stretch property. I'm planning to ditch Roboto on our enterprise projects. With this update, we could replace six separate web font files (3x Roboto, 3x Roboto Condensed) with just one.

I too dig that idea of an narrow/condensed version of Inter

@rsms any timeline on this?

I agree that a condensed Inter would be perfect for headings.

Would like to see that as well. But I guess if done correctly, it’s basically a complete redesign ~ so a massive amount of work.

Note that you can already use Inter Display for headings, which comes with somewhat narrower tracking and glyph widths (compare the x):

I wonder what it'd take to provide a glyph width axis on the variable font (in a way that preserves the expected stroke thickness).
