I am putting this here for future reference.

Could it be considered whether any of the following js chem editors could make it into src/main/webapp/scripts/externalTinymcePlugins

MolView (GNU AGPL v3.0)
ChemDoodle Web Components (GNU GPL v3.0)
SmilesDrawer (MIT)
