Warning in install.packages :

I have command line tools installed. Running xcode-select --install at terminal gives

xcode-select: error: command line tools are already installed, use "Software Update" to install updates

And everything is up to date.

Any help on this much appreciated.

I'm not sure why the installation isn't working on your computer, but CRAN now has a Mac binary package for 1.5.3.1, so you could just try installing again.

That seems to have done it - in the sense that the error message has changed to something else ;) But yes, correctly installs now as far as I can see.
