I use this wifi adapter in ubuntu18,kernel 5.4,it's did't wrok, and can't scan any wifi ap, can't work......
same issue. Huawei Matebook D 2020. I tried all kind of distros, from Ubuntu, to Linux Mint, to PopOS, to Arch, to Manjaro. I tried a lot of kernels, from 5.4. to 5.3. to 5.8.*, to 5.7...
The problem still occurs..... I don't know what to do. The only one way to use the laptop properly is to use Windows....
I recently purchased the same laptop as @real-t0mg . I am using Arch with 5.9.1-arch1-1. I have not noticed any unexpected drops in wifi connection, or interruptions. Speed is good and consistent. My problem is that I have no bluetooth. I did not install windows so I don't know if it would have been better there.
So, the issues you guys are describing may have been fixed in kernel 5.9.1-arch1-1.
I also ran into this problem. I am using Fedor 33 Workstation. Laptop HONOR Magicbook PRO

I also struggle with frequent wifi drops and freezes on my Manjaro installation with this adapter in my laptop, does anyone have any idea how I could monitor the wifi and get the errors printed into terminal whenever the connection drops? I tried upgrading to kernel 5.10 and installing driver rtl88x2ce but no difference at all :/ It split the wifi into two distinct ones, wlan1 and wlp2s0 that all both work and dont work the exact same. and I'm using a Lenovo Thinkpad 3
The chip is bad itself. Many users experience stutters, dropouts and etc on every OS possible. The best suitable (in my honest opinion) option is to replace it with another chip (f.e 9260).
upd.: Just did it. Totally worth it
802.11n WiFi seems working on my Arch laptop. But only when there is no BT connection. Coexistence does not work as expected. Tried both the latest 5.10.16 kernel and 5.10.16 with zen patches. Also tried the modified kernel modules from https://github.com/lwfinger/rtw88 (rtw88-dkms-git
at AUR), still no luck
Thought I was going crazy, so glad to see other people are having this same issue. I haven't really done a deep dive on debugging yet, but fwiw, there are quite a few "rtw_8822ce 0000:02:00.0: timed out to flush queue 1" messages in the kernel log.
Can confirm there are a LOT of "flush to queue 1" messages in the logs whenever the wifi drops down to nothing.
Hello people i recently adquired a HP laptop with this network chipset Realtek RTL8822CE Pcie Wireless Network Adapter.
I used Fedora33 workstation iso and after installs it and update patches, the wifi disconnects continously. So , as you all, this is not working as due
rgds
I am currently running kernel 5.11.6 and the same exact issue on Arch Linux. I found however something that seems to solve the problem for now: https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?t=324341 As suggested at the end of this thread disabling power-management on the wifi-interface seems to solve this issue for me.
I have this problem in all the distros that I have tried. I can't find a distro where I have a normal wifi experience.
This is a dmesg output when I have the issue:

I am currently running kernel 5.11.6 and the same exact issue on Arch Linux. I found however something that seems to solve the problem for now: https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?t=324341 As suggested at the end of this thread disabling power-management on the wifi-interface seems to solve this issue for me.
it didn't help for me :(
I think that the issue seems can be "fixed" by manually setting the wifi connection with NetworkManager to 2.4GHz.... that's because the problem happens when the driver switches between 2.4GHz to 5Ghz and viceversa.... So you set only one band (2.4GHz is better because signal propagates easily through obstacles, though is less faster that 5GHz..)
The horrible experience is still present in kernel version 5.10.41 with firmware version (why does it need two different firmware versions, the older after the newer???):

I have also other issues connecting to a WiFi network with wpa-eap security. It connects to WiFi but a lot of times it does not seem to have internet connection.... but if I boot on Windows (on the same laptop) it does not seem to have these issues.
Here are logs, at 13:10 the connection started to work again:

I also notice that if I move to another place internet works but sometimes not. I think it's something related to the way this driver interacts with more APs (because this WiFi network in which I connect to has a lot of APs).
Also I think that it is due to this driver, because my friend has a linux machine too but he has not these issues.
Here's another log file of the same WiFi network (with wpa-eap security), but this time also wifi connection drops:

Anyone managed to definitely resolve this issue?
Having the exact same problem on windows with RTL8822CE, with latest firmware. Wifi drops off for no reason, I'm thinking similar issue with firmware crashing. No other device has this issue on same network.
negative, not fixed at all.

Latest log says firmware crash.
Do I understand correctly that firmware is something that is written to the chip itself? And not something that is related to which linux kernel or windows version is being used?
If I'm correct, then only a new bios/firmware chipset version could solve the issue, right?
Would explain why I'm seeing a similar issue on windows...
Another time I have troubles... I can connect to WiFi with Windows but not with GNU Linux (on the same machine obv). Here is journalctl log:

Sharing this dmesg output with vanilla kernel version 5.15.16. Another miserable failure in driver stability after few minutes. Two consecutive reboots, no joy. This driver is broken, it does not work, it fails. Avoid laptops with REALTEK hardware at all costs. rtw_8822ce_FAIL.txt
Sadly I am having the same issue. This issue has existed for years and still there has been no fix for it. The Linux devs have not tried fixing it much so now there is no real use for Linux on my computer. WIFI only works on Windows, and my PC is an all-in-one so I don't think I can modify the adaptor to be something else.
I don't think this is linux dev fault, but realtek fault instead
According to this post, adding the line
options rtw88_pci disable_aspm=1
to any file in the directory /etc/modprobe.d/
may solve this issue (I haven't tested it myself, though). Said post links to an issue on another Github repo, which in turn links to a bug report on Bugzilla. A similar thread on Ubuntu's launchpad has also been posted, which suggests the same solution.

Yeah I tried this and I while ago and it really didn't work out for me at least.

Ever since I've posted this, I haven't had any issues regarding disconnections. I haven't tried the aforementioned solutions, instead I migrated from the zen kernel to the regular one (currently on 5.16.14).
Hi, @igorlfs, in my experience disabling ASPM for the driver as per the referenced post does not help at all. Attached is my latest driver crash on kernel 5.16.19 for those who are interested. rtw_8822ce_PoS.txt
Hello this card Realtek RTL8822CE is so bad.. even with the windows driver it still bugs and doesn't support AP mode.
I also having the same terrible experience 😵💫
I am also having this issue
i also have this issue.. 3 years and Wi-Fi is still basically unusable
for anyone that stumbles across this, once I created a 2.4ghz network on my access point / router the problem "went away" I shouldn't say the problem is gone, just that the chipset/drivers don't seem to like 5ghz wifi networks. Once I created a network that was only 2.4 ghz and connected to it I had no issues. perhaps that could point folks in the right diriection.
specifics: ASUS vivobook model number TM420UA-DS52T REALTECH CHIPSET: rtw_8822ce OS: Fedora 38 uname -r: 6.4.11-200.fc38.x86_64
have the following chipset: $ lspci ... 01:00.0 Network controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8822CE 802.11ac PCIe Wireless Network Adapter
not sure if this helps but when I added a new single frequency network (specifically 2.4ghz and connected to it) my problems went away. I'm not knowledgeable enough to know if this is really the issue.
Also dmesg and logs are still plagued with the above errors.
Haven't had a problem since I connected to the legacy network. hope this helps.
I own for about a year a Lenovo ideapad 3 ALC6 (14"//ryzen 5500u// 20GB RAM // 512 SSD) and unfortunately this awful Realtek RTL8822CE. Using this card on linux has been hit and miss. I am on latest kernel now (linux mint 21.2) and still have issues. While sitting next to the router it connects and works fine (both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz), with rare disconnects. When I move a couple of rooms away it either connects and disconnects immediately or doesn't see the network at all (power management disabled just to be sure). Tried with several routers and APs, with same results. In the same time it works flawlessly in Windows. The linux support for this card will never be fixed. Period. I have already ordered an Intel AX201 mini pci-e wifi card to replace this awful realtek. Intel actively supports linux and I've been hearing good things about Intel AX201 and AX210. I found AX201 at about 15€ in my country, so I'll try it and report back. Thankfully my laptop is easily serviceable and the wifi card easy to swap. Don't waste your time with this terrible realtek product.
I hate being just another "me too".... but trying latest kernel and non-free-firmware repo on Debian 12 still produces exactly the same issues, and none of the "supposed [solved] posts" out there that suggest modifying the suspend policy and turning off power management make any real difference. Neither does trying other peoples modules as a subsitute.
After a random period of time, packets just stop. wifi is still connected, but no packets get as far as the gateway. The laptop does not have to be suspended, or even go to screensaver for this to happen. Sometimes its a few minutes, somethimes its an hour or more, but it IS going to happen.
There really isnt anything I can particularly add to the lengthy log files provided by others already, its the same fault and I see the same details. If however there is anything specific I can do to help progress this, please shout and I will provide further info
i have same card no issues ?
Hey, @tethragon did your laptop allow you to install the Intel card? It doesn't have a whitelist?
Hey, @tethragon did your laptop allow you to install the Intel card? It doesn't have a whitelist?
I did the swap several months ago with absolutely no problems. The new intel card was recognized out-of-the-box both from windows and Linux mint (dual boot system).
What do you mean by "whitelist" ? Probably that there is some kind of hardware "lock" from the manufacturer (Lenovo)? No, there was no problem installing the card which was automatically recognized by both windows and Linux Mint.
Yes, many laptops have a list of wifi cards in the bios. If you install one that is not on the list, the laptop will not load the operating system.
It's good to know yours doesn't have this problem. I have a similar model, ADA6, with the same wifi card. But mine is working well.
In case it is still relevant. Many Windows users also report issues with connecting to 5GHz band with this wifi card.
See the following threads: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Wireless-and-Networking/Is-Realtek-RTL8822CE-802-11ac-PCIe-Adapter-support-5GHZ-band/td-p/8579428

The problem may be with the firmware or even a problem with the physical hardware design of this chip. Random defects are also a possibility.
This chip has been approved by the FCC in: 02 November 2018 (source: https://techinfodepot.shoutwiki.com/wiki/Realtek_RTL8822CE_Combo_Module), so it isn't that new and Realtek had plenty of time to address these issues.
This is annoying, because this chip is one of the most common ones in laptops, especially cheap ones, and replacing the wi-fi chip may not always be a possibility for one reason or another.
I will say: I have been lucky to not encounter any "random disconnection" on 2.4 Ghz, but the wi-fi chip is still quite slow, it's not unbearable, but it's not good at all.
All, I feel your pain.
Here are some settings that have helped me keep a somewhat stable connection to a 5Ghz network, although I still get random disconnects out of the blue. I use Slackware, so YMMV on systemd distros.

Appalling user experience using the RTL8822CE 802.11ac PCIe Wireless Network Adapter in any linux distribution and any kernel version. Wifi connection drops and freezes all the time. Using different brand of access point or wifi router makes no difference, same horrible experience. No parameter passed to module will mitigate the issue. Kernel versions 5.4, 5.7 and 5.8.1 deliver same horrible wifi experience.
Please refer to the attached specs and kernel messages for reference of the system configuration, make and model. I can patch and compile my own kernels for testing diff patches to mainline kernel.
How to reproduce:
