added basic result logging for installers #1

Hi- I added a test of the /usr/sbin/installer result so that failed installs get logged as such.

I'm closing this pull request even though I'm actually accepting the majority of the change. When I saw what you were requesting, I decided to see if I could improve what was being logged. I've now made those changes and committed them.
