steps:

  1. understand purpose and the strategy cycle:
    • why: moral imperative
    • why: strategy of movement (separate from the moral imperative)
  2. Understand your landscape
    • need an anchor (typically a user and their needs)
    • need to see movement

you can use this map to start to anticipate change

Evolution of product/technology development: genesis -> custom built -> product (+rental) -> Commodity (+utility)

Evolution of product offering:

  1. agile - high change to establish lots of features to latch onto value creation for customer
  2. lean - focus on features that are known to be valuable to customers
  3. six sigma - value is well defined (as a service). Deviation from standard service offering is avoided.
