Junk at top of shell buffer when starting from bufs mode #64

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Start nav, and go into bufs mode
2. Press s to start shell mode

Junk (contents of bufs mode) shows up at the top of the shell buffer.

This happens in emacs 22 but not emacs 23.

I just removed the key binding because it seems to trigger some bug in emacs 22 
that 
has since been fixed, but emacs 22 is still in common use.
