Love this one! I think there's a one-in-five-ish chance I'm the Dan mentioned, if so thanks for the shoutout! Either way, I hope to work with ya'll again someday.

This episode made me think of "the fourth quadrant" based on an old Donald Rumsfield quote that was also mentioned recently in a primegean video: "unknown knowns". This is what you "know" but are either unaware of or don't seem important/applicable. This is where most biases, especially expert bias, live.

Hey Evan and Joe! Longtime listener, first time commenter 😄 Loved the episode. Wanted to mention as a new-er engineer (can I still say that?) that I really loved this choice of topic. These sort of knee-“jerk” responses are something that I see on and off, particularly as a women in tech, that can really turn someone off of a career. It’s great to see these sort of human & professional skills be held up to similar importance as technical excellence.

Evan, it’s awesome that you’re going for the WAS! It got me thinking about accessibility in general and particularly how sometimes I can feel like by trying to make something more accessible I might actually be making it worse. For instance, I might aria hide something that screen reader users are used to or use a confusing role in a carousel or something. I’d be curious to hear y’all talk about that (how to learn accessibility while not leaving a bigger mess in your wake) or just accessibility in general in a future episode! Keep it up!

@danieluhl you are absolutely the person I mentioned, and you actually get another shoutout in "The One About Looking Stupid". It's slowly becoming a Dan fan club podcast at this point

@selena-groh welcome! It's awesome hearing from you. I'm glad you liked the episode, it's a subject we need to cover more of moving forward (maybe with a guest ⬅️ 👀 )

On the a11y front, I agree 100%. It feels so daunting to push for accessibility without knowing for sure if you are doing the right or wrong thing. We will absolutely cover this in an upcoming episode. I'll start digging around for articles!

Yeah, @danieluhl we pretty much mention you in every episode.

Thanks Selena, I had no idea you're a listener!
