6 years ago I didn't use the google library, but I do have a branch that uses Johnny Five and node-pixel. Currently requires running local server of course (in addition to the extra Arduino hardware).

Looks really cool and does many things that I was avoiding even considering because I didn't want to climb the hardware hill on my own. Would love to hook this up and power really large displays!
